Three youngsters of the 67 children present walked off with fish trophies from the Woodbury Fire Department’s annual angler event for kids under 13 on Saturday May 9th at the stocked farmpond on Railtree Hill Road. From left in the photo: Aubrey Hatstat with the second prize rainbow trout as well as the sportsmanship award, repeat winner Elise Sabelevsky with the largest rainbow as first prize, and Griffin Sabelevsky most motivated angler trophy.
In all, children caught 43 of the 150 brook, brown, and rainbow trout stocked in the pond. Happy young fisherfolk and their accompanying families lined up for a group photo afterwards in the mild but drizzly overcast day. More than 20 local merchants and individuals contributed prizes for lottery events with the list of donors prominently displayed. Woodbury firefighters hold the kids’ fishing derby each year in memory of former Chief Mel Snyder, an ardent angler.
