Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department Annual Hose Testing

SHARE

The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept conducted its annual inspection of seven miles of fire hose over four sessions in June.  As of the halfway mark, only four short lengths of 1 ¾” hose dating back to the 1980s failed a test of 250 lbs psi (pounds per square inch) water pressure for three minutes.  In the photo longtime firefighter Rob Start is the pump operator gradually increasing pressure while fellow firefighters examine the hoses for leaks at full length according to standards set by the National Fire Protection Association. The Woodbury department runs its hoses up to 125 lbs PSI which is a higher maximum pressure than most volunteer departments. The tests take place in the Nonnewaug High School parking lot after school closes for the day.
