The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department’s annual clean-up and safety burn of discarded Christmas trees drew an estimated 150 spectators Saturday evening Jan 21st. “We emphasize the danger of dry evergreens,” says Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan commenting on the dramatic 6pm event which began with Former Chief Bud Neal demonstrating the speed in which even a single tree can flare into a high, hot burst of fire. The main pyre of 253 trees soared skywards for more than an hour in calm, chilly weather. Afterwards viewers including many children toured the town’s fire trucks in the bays at 25 Quassuk Rd and enjoyed free hot chocolate and sweets served by firefighters.
