Woodbury Volunteer Firefighters welcome the public to the annual 9/11 memorial ceremony on Thursday Sept 11th in Hollow Park at 08:45am. The brief event remembers the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 that killed 343 New York City Firefighters among the total estimated 3,000 dead.

Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan and the department chaplain will lead the firefighter contingent. Two flag bearers and a squad of military veterans from the local American Legion Post 155 will present the colors as firefighters toll a fire bell in mournful tribute.  Boy Scouts from Woodbury’s Troop 54 also will be present.

A soloist from Nonnewaug High School will sing the Star-Spangled Banner. The singer will be accompanied by the Region 14 School Superintendent, the principal of NHS, and NHS’s music director. Barbara Perkinson, Woodbury’s retiring First Selectman, is scheduled to deliver a brief address. The ceremony agenda ends with Former Chief Bud Neal presenting a bouquet to families of those who lost a member in the attack.
