Annual Bonfire of Discarded Christmas Trees

WOODBURY – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept will conduct its annual public bonfire of Christmas trees Saturday January 18th at 6pm in front of the department at 25 Quassuk Road with a rain date of January 19th.  Each year the public fire-safety event draws about 150 spectators who enjoy the fire and hot cocoa in the firetruck bays afterwards.  As always, townspeople can call Woodbury Boy Scout Troop 54 at 203 206 1942 to arrange last-minute pickup of discarded evergreens for a small donation. Trees also can be left directly on the pile but “Not on the curb or in the parking lot,” says Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan. In the attached 2024 photo, Former Chief Bud Neal pushes burning trees closer together with his front-end loader.

As of New Years Day, citizens had already dropped off 20 trees and expectations are well over 10 times that number by the burn date.

1/17/2025 UPDATE:  Due to the uncertainty of the weather this weekend, the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept is postponing the Annual Xmas Tree Burn one week to January 25th at 6pm in front of department headquarters at 25 Quassuk Road. Says Chief Janet B. Morgan, “We are being careful. We may be busy with fire or rescue call-outs due to freezing rain or snow.”
