Woodbury Firefighters marked the midsummer break at the end of July with a community effort Friday called ‘watering the kids’ to close summer day camp and then extensively drilled new members Saturday with tools used to extricate victims from car crashes.  In a photo from Friday July 25th, Firefighter Haden Ware, an IT designer, asks two girls if they enjoyed dashing under the spray from 2,000 gallons of water carried on Engine 8. In the drill picture from Saturday July 26th, Amy Clark, Woodbury’s director of emergency management, uses power tools to separate a car frame in a rescue extrication drill.  Nearly half a dozen new members of the department became familiar with the powerful equipment by demolishing a donated vehicle. “Training with this gear is critically important,” Deputy Chief Dave Lampart told them, “Because car crashes were the largest single component of the 461 callouts last year.”
