With sealed bids from as far afield as Washington State, Oregon, and Oklahoma, the Woodbury Fire Department’s former Tanker 9 went for a $70,000 high bid on Tuesday July 22nd to the Bart Township Fire Co. in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish farmland. “It is an exciting moment,” said Debra Carlton in the town offices as she unsealed the bidding in the presence of Woodbury Fire Department officials and Barbara Perkinson, the First Selectman. One of the bids for the 1995 Ford firetruck was from a private citizen. Another (photo 1) was from a Tennessee fire department with a formal bid on a half sheet of yellow paper torn from a pad. The 30-year-old tank truck (photo 2) cost $168,210 in 1995. It was replaced last month with a new $450,000 truck holding the same 2500-gallon capacity with modern equipment.
