Woodbury Volunteer Firefighters lined up recently to train with the updated devices and connections on the department’s new $450,000 tank truck. The new vehicle was ordered four years ago with delivery only at the very end of June 2025. “It was about $15,000 over budget,” says Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan, “but we were braced for it. Raw material prices shot up during delays caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, and we were committed to covering them.”
In the first pictures, Fire Captain Steve Cunningham attaches a hose line to the truck while Former Chief Bud Neal observes. Then in the second photo, Cunningham lugs the length of hose with firefighters Steve Anctil ready to help and Matt Gereg at the truck. In the final photo, Firefighter Earl Gillette, behind the wheel, familiarizes himself with the many driving options under the guidance of Deputy Fire Chief Dave Lampart.
The new International truck replaces a 1995 Ford tank truck that will be sold onward. Lampart says, “There’s a five-year delay backlog in getting a new truck. Smaller departments will pay a lot to get a used truck right away and in good shape like this one.” In fact, the department’s six fire officers have each put up a five-dollar bill in a private pool betting how much the town will receive in a sale. Lampart took the high ground with a bet that the 30-year-old truck will sell for $100,000 at retail.
