WOODBURY – Woodbury and Middlebury volunteer firefighters joined forces Sunday morning April 28th in combating a structured burn at the Litchfield County Fire Training School. About 20 firefighters participated with Woodbury’s Engine 4 and Middlebury’s Ladder Truck 1 in the exercise. In the first photo, Woodbury Firefighters Helen Hickey and Raphael Sbarge with Fire Lt. Matt Gereg receive a last-minute safety briefing. The second photo shows Woodbury Firefighters Helen Hickey and Matthew Daly Lehman bracing themselves to face flames as they enter the structure. When not responding to local fire or rescue calls, Hickey is a West Haven firefighter and paramedic, Sbarge is an actor, Daly Lehman is a college student, and Gereg is semi-retired. “We’re all neighbors, all with different life stories,” says Woodbury Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan. “We are part of our communities.”
