WOODBURY April 23, 2024– “What if you have to go?” asked an eight year old girl in Woodbury’s fourth grade. She was one of the 347 pre-K to fifth graders who toured ten different kinds of trucks and received explanations at the second annual Careers on Wheels day in the Mitchell Elementary School parking lot Tuesday April 23rd. Pausing to answer the practical question while explaining his personal protection gear (photo) is trainee Firefighter Matthew Daly Lehman, a college junior. “Just hold it if you can,” he said. With him at left is new recruit Firefighter Steve Anctil who added, “Or you can put your clothing in the washing machine afterwards.” The questioner frowned but didn’t ask any follow-ups. The two firefighters were joined by Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan, Firefighter and former Chief Chuck Kiessling, Fire Lt. Matt Gereg, and Firefighter Jason Hatstat in explaining all the pumps, hoses, nozzles, tools, devices, sensors, special equipment, and protective gear carried in the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept’s Engine 4. The morning event was under brilliant blue sky in sunny 60 degree weather.
